Trump administration plans NSC overhaul, Marco Rubio takes over

U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are spearheading a plan to overhaul the National Security Council (NSC), shifting key functions to other agencies like the State Department and the Department of Defense. According to Fox News, the move comes after former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz’s departure from the White House.

A White House official revealed to Axios that President Trump and Secretary Rubio are targeting what they call the “Deep State” in Washington. They believe the NSC is filled with career staffers who are not aligned with President Trump’s agenda.

The restructuring will also place Andy Barker, national security advisor to Vice President JD Vance, and Robert Gabriel, assistant to the president for policy, in the role of deputy national security advisors. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently serving as acting national security advisor following Mr. Waltz’s departure, according to Fox News.
